Adwa, Tigray

Adwa, Tigray

In December 2023, Restore The Motherland partnered with Midako Publishing, a children's bookstore based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We purchased 1,000 Tigrinya literacy textbooks and 55 packs of decodable Tigrinya storybooks from Midako Publishing to donate to first graders in Adwa. Our team collaborated with the Education Bureau of Adwa to incorporate these books into the curriculum of 12 pilot elementary schools, marking the first time this curriculum has been used in the entire Tigray region. These resources have been instrumental in helping first graders learn to read and write in Tigrinya within 5 to 8 months.

Additionally, we donated a combined printer and scanner, along with 5 packs of 500 sheets of printing paper and 5 packs of printing ink/toner, to Tadelech Hailu High School.

Berri Maida - Samre

Berri Maida - Samre

Berri Maida is an all-girls' hostel and education center located in Samre, Tigray, Ethiopia, hosting over 120 girls in grades 9–12. The impact of the Tigray war has severely affected Berri Maida, leaving them only able to provide one meal a day for the girls during our team's visit. After learning about the hostel's existence during our team’s visit, and upon completing our projects in Adwa and Shire, we decided to use our remaining funds to supply Berri Maida with over two months' worth of non-perishable goods. Additionally, we provided them with a budget of 40,000 ETB to purchase any necessary perishable items.
