Um Rakuba Refugee Camp, Sudan
Um Rakuba, a UNHCR refugee camp, has been home to Tigrayan refugees who fled the Tigray war beginning in November 2020. In February 2022, we donated 1,028 English, Math, and Science books for grades 1-8, along with 20 soccer balls and 20 volleyballs distributed across all of the schools in the camp. Remaining donation funds were used to provide 60 pairs of shoes for students impacted by the January 2022 fire and blankets for 80 families who were also affected.
In December 2022, our team addressed the schools’ need for recreational activity resources by donating 20 soccer balls, 20 volleyballs, 500 packs of colored pencils, and 147 coloring books. With the leftover funds, we purchased 1,500 packs of sanitary pads to support 700 female students and teachers.
